Susannah Variation Quilt Block
Mosaics & More 2026 Block of the Month – Month 2
The Susanna Variation quilt block is the featured design for Month 2 of the Mosaics & More 2026 Block of the Month Club, and it’s a perfect example of how traditional quilt blocks can feel fresh, intentional, and skill-building—without being overwhelming.
In this month’s block, we focus on foundational quilting techniques that every quilter should have in their toolbox, while continuing to build a cohesive quilt design across the year.
If you enjoy classic blocks, clean construction, and learning why techniques work—not just how—this block is for you.
About the Mosaics & More 2026 Block of the Month
The Mosaics & More BOM is a year-long quilt-along designed for beginner and confident beginner quilters who want to:
Strengthen core piecing skills
Work with traditional blocks in a modern, polished way
Build a quilt one manageable block at a time
Learn techniques they can reuse in future quilts
Each month introduces a new block along with specific techniques that build on the months before it.
👉 Members get access to all past blocks, so you can join anytime and catch up at your own pace.
Month 2 Focus: The Susanna Variation Quilt Block
The Susanna Variation is inspired by the traditional Susanna quilt block, with a layout that highlights contrast, symmetry, and intentional color placement.
Rather than rushing through construction, this block encourages thoughtful piecing and accuracy—skills that make a huge difference in how your finished quilt looks and lies.
Techniques highlighted in this block include:
Strip piecing for efficiency and consistency
Snowball corners to create a square-in-a-square center
Careful fabric rotation for balanced color placement
These are techniques you’ll use again and again in quilting, far beyond this one block.
Fabric & Color Palette
For Month 2, we’re working with Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids, known for their smooth feel and rich, modern colors.
The featured colors in this block are:
Snow (white)
Raspberry Rose
Tile Blue
This palette builds directly off Block 1, helping the quilt feel cohesive while still adding visual interest as the months progress.
